Why I’m Happy Gay Marriage Has Been Legalised in America…

By  |

So Gay marriage has been approved in America!

“In a long-sought victory for the gay rights movement, the Supreme Court ruled by a 5-to-4 vote on Friday that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.

“No longer may this liberty be denied,” Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority in the historic decision. “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.”

Marriage is a “keystone of our social order,” Justice Kennedy said, adding that the plaintiffs in the case were seeking “equal dignity in the eyes of the law” –  via NY Times.

A lot of people on social media have commented on this and as a Christian it is difficult for me to have an opinion as you can imagine.

However, I am happy that same-sex marriage has been finally legalised. Personally, I’m not gay, but if I ever decided I wanted to be with another woman and get married I should have the right to, and not feel or be treated as any less of a person for my decision.

When it comes to being gay, homosexual, bisexual or sexuality in general, my personal thoughts are that you should do, and be with whoever makes you happy. Who are we as imperfect humans to judge? Society in general is way too judgemental, especially on how others lead their lives which should be none of our business. Not one of us lead the ‘perfect’ or ‘ideal’ life… I mean what is perfect anyway?!

Some people look to religion to guide their lives and act as an example for what the ideal way of living should be. I do believe in God and consider myself a Christian, but I do believe that not all parts of the Bible are meant to be taken literally, and we also have to except the fact that it was written a very long time ago and things have changed.

I don’t want to go into a major rant right now explaining what I think about religion, Christianity, sexuality etc (because this would probably turn into an e-book! lol) so I’ll just leave it that and again say that I’m happy same-sex marriage has been approved nationwide in America. Everyone deserves the right to love without being judged and hate has no place in this world. Plus it’s not THAT much of a big deal anyway, marriage is essentially just a piece of paper that gives you more legal rights within a relationship and certain areas of society.

So now I want to ask… Can they legalize being Black over there please?
