A Girl About Town
Curly Hair Magazine Launch | A Girl About Town
On Tuesday, July 28th I attended the launch of new natural hair publication, Curly Hair Magazine.
Curly Hair Magazine is the first free bi-monthly natural hair and beauty magazine in the UK, created for women with “Curly, Coily and Kinky hair”, who want to learn more about their hair and how to maintain it.
It was a great launch and I genuinely enjoyed it. I go to a lot of events, launches etc and some of them can be pretty boring! But this one was actually really fun. There was free wine at the bar, and who doesn’t love a bit of a cheeky alcoholic freebie? Maybe that swayed me a little, but oh well, what can I say.
There was also a pop up nail bar where you could get free manicure, and also a hair styling bar. As I already had a fresh manicure I decided to spruce up my hairstyle in the hair bar. I’m always a bit fussy when it comes to people I’m not familiar with doing my hair and I was going out afterwards so was a bit hesitant to try anything drastic, but the stylist did an AMAZING job (pictured below) and it really made me realise how terrible I am when it comes to hair styling and need to step my game up! LOL
Apart from all the fun stuff and freebies (I got a juicy little goody-bag too full of hair goodies) it was actually rather informative and I learned a lot.
I always thought I knew quite a bit about natural hair care and the various products out there but it turns out there’s a lot I didn’t know and still don’t – which is why this magazine has launched at a great time.
So many of us former relaxer (chemical hair straightener) addicts have got rid of the ‘creamy crack’ and we’re embracing our natural hair texture or gravitating towards more protective styles such as wigs and weaves. We certainly need more publications helping us to style and look after our natural curls so we can look our best at all times because after all looking good is feeling good.
